‘Willy Gnonto sale makes sense this summer’ after what has happened at Leeds

Willy Gnonto has had a rollercoaster of a season with Leeds United this time out, though it may serve as the beginning of the end for his time at Elland Road.

Leeds United will have their one and only focus on achieving promotion back into the Premier League this season, though they will be keeping a sly eye on the summer transfer window in preparation.

Regardless of which league they are in, the Whites will have a lot of work to do in the window, with several players expected to leave and a number of additions needed.

Throughout the current campaign, Gnonto has been in and out of the team, with Daniel Farke strangely opting against utilising the Italian.

Farke treatment of Gnonto has been baffling

Gnonto has shined when afforded the opportunity, but for reasons unknown, those opportunities have largely come from the bench.

The Italian was handed a start in their latest 1-1 draw with Luton Town but failed to impress, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him dropped yet again for their encounter with Middlesbrough.

Gnonto has three years left on his contract once the current campaign is over, and at just 21 years old, his value will still be very, very high.

If Farke has opted against using him this season, promotion back to the Premier League will likely see those chances reduce even further, and for all parties, a reluctant sale may hold its purpose.

Gnonto will be wanting to start regularly at his age, while Leeds may not be in the position to offer him those guarantees, and with his stock still high, there will be a decision to make.

Leeds have no excuses remaining in search for promotion

Leeds have had the squad to deal with the schedule in the Championship, though Farke simply hasn’t used it to its best effect, and a failure to get promoted would highlight that.

The Whites currently sit third in the league, having once looked as though they had sealed their return to the Premier League.

A failure to follow through on that ambition would be a disaster for all involved.
