Wilfried Gnonto ‘to hand in transfer request’ after developments at Leeds United

Daniel Farke almost has too many attacking options at his disposal as Leeds United attempt to seal promotion back to the Premier League.

With 60 goals in 30 matches, no other Championship team has scored more goals this season, seeing them top the table over the likes of Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland.

Joel Piroe is leading the way with 12 goals, boosting his overall play with another five assists, with Brenden Aaronson and Dan James following shortly behind with eight goals each.

Manor Solomon and Wilfried Gnonto are both proving their worth from the bench, with Largie Ramazani also netting four times in the league since making the switch from Almeria during the summer.

However, there is bound to be some frustration amongst the goals due to the number of talented forwards attempting to push their way into the starting XI under Farke.

Having once thrown his toys out the pram before, Gnonto is unlikely to be content with occupying a spot on the bench on such a regular occurrence, starting zero of the last six league games.

He was not even used as a substitute in two of those matches, both of which Leeds dropped points – the 3-3 draw with Hull City and the boring 0-0 draw with Burnley.

Wilfried Gnonto surely frustrated with Leeds United role

Gnonto was the number-one option at the beginning of the season, notching six goal contributions in the opening nine matches, but it has all gone downhill for the player since.

He has been given less and less time on the pitch, slowly being edged into a substitute role by the manager, and some fans will be worried that another transfer request could be handed in at Elland Road.

When Everton came calling for his signature in the summer of 2023, his 19-year-old self pushed for a move away from Yorkshire [BBC Sport], a transfer which ultimately never materialised for the youngster.

The 21-year-old has experienced an incredible turnaround since that moment, becoming a well-loved figure at Elland Road and becoming far more mature, but the same worry is still there.

As such a young and exciting forward, Gnonto will be eager to get onto the pitch and be the player to carry the Whites forward to promotion, but Farke clearly has other ideas.

The situation has raised a few eyebrows amongst the fanbase and some will be worried that Gnonto could hand in another transfer request despite only putting pen to paper on a new contract recently.
