This is why Leeds fans love Bielsa

There are reasons why Leeds fans are in love with Marcelo Bielsa.

It’s not just the passion, although he’s been rumoured to sleep over at the training ground on occasion.

It’s not just the results either, although he’s got Leeds back to winning ways and within a whisker of promotion last season.

It’s not even just the fact that he’s a person who has a real connection with the fans, although the following three tweets show what a warm and genuine person he is.

Here he is getting mobbed by the Leeds fans (above) and here he is stopping his car to hug one young Leeds fan after a pre-season friendly (below).

It’s all of the above combined but it’s all because of the style of football he’s brought to Elland Road.

The brilliant Swans Analytics account delivered a graph that showed how Championship sides played last season – long and direct or short and patient from the back.

Leeds United are the outliers, ahead of Swansea, Norwich, Brentford and Derby.

It’s yet more proof that the beautiful game can be played even away from the top-flight, in a league that’s more known for its physical football.

Of course, that’s no good if you don’t win promotion into the Premier League… but that’s what this season is for, right?
