Relegation fears could increase at Elland Road as Leeds United suffer crushing Tyler Adams injury blow

Relegation fears at Leeds United may now be increasing after news emerged that Tyler Adams is set to miss the remainder of the 22/23 campaign.

The Whites climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone after holding off a late Wolves fightback to win an enthralling game at Molineux on Saturday [18 March] and the international break now may have come at the wrong time for Javi Gracia and his side.

Reliable source, LUFC FANZONE shared on Tuesday [28 March] that there is a “strong possibility” of the American international being ruled out for the entire season after picking up a thigh injury before their win over Wolves.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported [28 March] that Adams has been “forced to undergo surgery” on his hamstring injury and is now set for an “extended” Leeds United absence on the treatment table, with fears he could well be out for a minimum of 10 weeks, according to football injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar.

And Adams’ injury is a hugely crushing blow to the Whites’ chances of survival considering his huge importance to the team this season. The American international has established himself as a pivotal and key performer for the Whites since his move from RB Leipzig, featuring in 24 of their 26 Premier League games this season so far.

Adams’ aggression, tenacity and presence in the middle of the pitch will be sorely missed, and Gracia won’t just be sweating over the fitness of his American midfield dynamo.

Wilfried Gnonto [ankle] and Max Wober [thigh] both returned from respective international matches for Italy and Austria with injury niggles and could well be set for a spell out too.

This news couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Elland Road faithful as the club face extremely crucial upcoming games in the Premier League as they sit just two points above the drop zone.

Adams’ injury blow is arguably the worst of the lot considering his underlying numbers in the Leeds midfield this season.

The American international has recorded the most tackles out of all Premier League players so far this season (89), the second-most tackles won (46) the most dribbles tackled (50) and also recorded the sixth-most blocks of any Premier League player according to FBRef, numbers which evidently rank him as the best-performing midfielder and player at Elland Road.

Adams absence leaves a significant hole at the base of the Whites midfield that Gracia will have to find a way to adequately fill if he is to keep his side away from the drop zone.

More crucially, hardly any of the club’s relegation rivals will have suffered such blows to their key players after the international break which leaves Leeds United in a much worse position than when they entered the two-week hiatus.

With the relegation battle set to intensify in the coming weeks, the Whites’ chances of survival have taken a major hit before we even kick off the last crucial stretch of the season.
