MOT View: Orta hoping lightning strikes twice as Leeds head into talks with PL side for Jan deal
Leeds United are stepping up their pursuit of Liverpool attacker Rhian Brewster.
In a sign that seems to say that Eddie Nketiah’s time is almost up at Elland Road, Leeds are reportedly set to meet with Liverpool within days to try to agree a deal to sign Brewster.
According to Football Insider, Leeds transfer chief Victor Orta is hoping that lightning strikes twice as he prepares to pitch Marcelo Bielsa as the reason Jurgen Klopp should send his youngster their way.
It worked in the summer.
According to BBC journalist David Ornstein, Orta used the lure of Bielsa to convince Nketiah to come to Leeds on loan, turning down interest from Bristol City, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Swansea.
Of course, the problem with this is that things didn’t work out the way Nketiah or Arsenal would have wanted.
And the big issue must be game time again. Liverpool will want Brewster to play in the second half of the season.
Klopp will be well aware that Patrick Bamford is the number one striker at Leeds – he’s a player who’s integral to the way Beidsla plays.
That will leave Brewster in the same situation as Nketiah, feeding off scraps and looking to make an impact from the bench.
The positives are numerous. Brewster would be joining a side battling for promotion. He’d also be learning under Bielsa, one of the best managers in the game at any level.
Will that be enough?
Orta is obviously confident that the lure of Bielsa will swing Brewster Leeds’ way.
