MOT View: Leeds have no need to be worried as promotion rival sends warning
With the Championship season less than a week away from returning, the mind games have already started with Leeds United leading the way.
The Whites are seven points clear of third-placed Fulham after winning their last five games before the break, all with clean sheets.
Leeds play last on the weekend restart, travelling to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon to try and start their promotion push with a bang.
Nottingham Forest currently sit in fifth, 11 points behind Marcelo Bielsa’s men, but that doesn’t seem to have dented their confidence.
Michael Dawson has sent a warning to the clubs above them, claiming that his side are fully focused on hunting them down.
“We’ve put ourselves in a good position and we’re hunting West Brom and Leeds down,” he told talkSPORT.
“They’ve got some big games coming up against play-off rivals – Brentford and Fulham. We all have to play them.”
It seems like someone may have been struck with too much confidence, with Leeds staying quiet and putting the work in on the pitch to maintain their spot.
Forest acted like they had won promotion after they had beaten the Whites 2-0 back in February, but only won one of their following six games.
That saw them fall down the play-off spots rapidly, so we aren’t sure whether that counts as a good position just as Dawson suggested.
Leeds only have Fulham left to play out of teams in the top-eight, compared to Forest who still have to go up against the Cottagers, Bristol City and Preston.
Bielsa’s men would need to lose at least four games of their nine to be caught by Forest, and given their recent form and tough fixtures ahead, we don’t see a need to worry.
In other Leeds United news, Neil Harris has already confirmed one absentee for Cardiff’s upcoming clash with the Whites
