MOT View: Leeds can already wave goodbye to sensational move for Marcelo

Leeds United have been linked with a sensational move for Real Madrid defender Marcelo this summer.

The Mirror reported on Saturday that the Whites could sign the Brazilian for only £5million, although they would face stiff competition from Everton.

Marcelo Bielsa needs a left-back, although it is looking as though it won’t be Marcelo, despite strong links to the Champions League winner.

Marca have reported this week that Marcelo is going nowhere.

Despite the strong links surfacing, it is suggested that the Brazilian will stay at the Bernabeu for one more season under Carlo Ancelotti.

With only one more year left on his deal, the 31-year-old will then become a free agent and can seal his own preferred deal at this late stage of his career.

Despite not being the first choice at the club anymore, Marcelo has reportedly made it clear that he wants to run down his deal after spending many years in Madrid.

That wish appears to have been granted, ruling out any sensational move to Elland Road for the Whites this summer.

With this huge name being linked, it appears as though silly season has started very early this year at Elland Road.

No matter who, if there is a sniff of you potentially leaving your club, it would be a huge shock if the Whites weren’t mentioned as a potential destination.

Leeds need a left-back, Marcelo is a huge name, it made sense to link the two together.

Bielsa will want to go in a different direction though and will want someone as dynamic as they come, who is able to bomb up and down the touchline for 90 minutes every single week in the Premier League.

Marcelo isn’t that man, and the South American will be happy to run his contract down at Madrid, playing maybe once or twice every month.

This isn’t a massive loss, although it does show how far we have come, who’d have linked Marcelo with Elland Road this time two or three years ago? No one.
