MOT View: If Berardi is right then Leeds fans have every reason to be excited by 22y/o ace

Ben White has without doubt been one of the stand-out players for Leeds United this season. Many would even say that he has been Leeds’ best player by a very long stretch.

However that has not stopped Gaetano Berardi from claiming that the 22-year-old, on loan from Brighton, can still do some improving.

White has been an ever-present for Leeds since joining the Whites on a season-long loan in the summer.

He’s made 23 appearances in all competitions and played every minute of every match in the Championship.

Ex-Leeds left-back Danny Mills has gone so far to claim that White’s impressive performances in the Championship will lead to top Premier League clubs showing an interest in him once his loan spell at Elland Road is over [Football Insider].

However Swiss defender Berardi has suggested that we are still yet to see the best from White.

“He’s doing great,” Berardi told West Yorkshire Daily after the match on Tuesday night.

“Everybody could see from the first game that he is doing well. But he can also improve.

“He needs to do it like this, he needs to stay focused.

“We are helping him, just like he is helping us.”

If White can do better, then that is a mouthwatering prospect for Leeds United supporters.

The 22-year-old has already shown himself to be the best defender in the Championship this season with him being a mainstay in a defence that has conceded just 10 goals in 21 league fixtures.

According to stats by WhoScored, White ranks third in the league for average interceptions per match [2.6] and fourth for the average number of passes completed per game [59] out of centre-backs with more than 10 appearances.

In the Leeds squad, no player with more than 10 appearances has a better pass accuracy than the on-loan Brighton defender [85.2%] while he also averages more clearances [3.6] and blocks [0.6] per game than any of his team-mates.

White is an exciting young defender who is clearly good enough to feature in the Premier League.

However if he can do better, as Berardi says, then that is something we cannot wait to see as the season progresses.
