MOT View: Elia Caprile makes big statement to replace Kiko Casilla in Leeds squad
Leeds United youngster Elia Caprile made a big statement on Monday afternoon as the under-23s defeated Newcastle 2-1 at Thorp Arch.
The Italian youngster was named in the Premier League squad for the 2-0 defeat against West Ham last week and made the bench.
Kiko Casilla has been in and out of the squad this season, and the decision to drop him led to the Spaniard questioning his future at Elland Road.
The young Whites are now two wins away from promotion to the Premier League 2 Division 1, and they had Caprile to thanks
Speaking after the game this afternoon, Mark Jackson mentioned to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he was pleased with the Italian youngster.
“We’ve learnt some lessons. We had to dig in. There were some big saves from Elia Caprile at big moments,” he said.
This was a big statement from Caprile.
It will have been hard for the young Italian to make too much of a name for himself in this under-23s side who have dominated the league, but today, he did just that.
Caprile will want to make even more statements between now and the end of the season and prove to Marcelo Bielsa that he has what it takes to be second-in-line behind Illan Meslier.
The young Frenchman has been one of the biggest success stories this season since promotion to the Premier League, but he isn’t the only promising talent at Thorp Arch.
