MOT View: Augustin footage proves his dedication to Bielsa and Leeds
In the absence of any football, one of the many different things we’ve been watching over the past week has been Jean-Kevin Augustin’s workouts on his Instagram account.
While other players – not from Leeds we stress – have been talking about the difficulty of motivating themselves in lockdown, Augustin has been quietly transforming his appearance from French Ligue 1 substitute to a Bielsa starter.
Augustin arrived heavy and it’s no wonder that Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t started him for Leeds yet.
The talk when lockdown was imposed was that it could play into his hands but that was actually a way off the mark.
What people should have been saying was that it would give him the chance to prove himself. And he’s done just that, as you can see in the video below.
The really impressive thing about the work Augustin has put in is that he’s done it on his own. He might be getting help at Thorp Arch with his sprint mechanics, but the workouts are all his own work.
He doesn’t know when the season is going to re-start, no one does. But he’s training as if his career depends on it.
And it might do. He’s not realised his talent at any of his former clubs: Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig or Monaco.
Leeds United could be his final shot at the big time and Augustin knows that in six months he could have the chance to line up in the Premier League.
Bielsa is the perfect manager for him. Strict and so knowledgeable about football. But also very loyal with an eye for talent.
He’s transformed the Leeds squad already. Augustin has transformed himself physically. If Bielsa can do the same on the pitch for the new Leeds striker, the club could have a very exciting player on their hands.
