Marcelo Bielsa delivers mixed injury news ahead of Leeds clash v Luton

Marcelo Bielsa delivered a mixed bag of injury news ahead of Leeds’ Championship clash against Luton on Saturday.

Talking at the pre-match press conference (live in the LUFC app, Thursday, 12.30pm), Bielsa said that Liam Cooper, who was suffering from a minor tear in his groin, has a chance of making the game. If he’s not risked – and we think that’s likely – we’d expect Gaetano Berardi to come in for him. He also said Ezgjan Alioski was “good”.

Stuart Dallas is fine after withdrawing from Northern Ireland’s game against Germany with a tight hamstring. As we hoped, it looked like that was precautionary, with NI already assured of a Euro 2020 play-off place.

The really good bit of news is that while Eddie Nketiah isn’t fit for the Luton game, he is expected to be back in full training next week. That could see him make a return ahead of his original comeback date of December.

Now for the bad news.

Jamie Shackleton is close to fitness but the Luton game will come too soon for him.

Bielsa then talked about Adam Forshaw and the news there is more worrying. The midfielder is still out and Bielsa said there was no timescale on his return.

That’s been the word from Leeds for a while now and he’s been out for seven games, and nine of the last ten after making a 45-minute appearance in the game against Charlton.

He’s a real miss and it seems like there’s a bigger problem with Forshaw than was originally thought.

Given this news, this is the side we expect to see against Luton, where Leeds will come up against an in-form Izzy Brown, who will be desperate to prove Bielsa wrong after a failed loan stint at Elland Road last season.
