Sam Greenwood has impressed out on loan away from Leeds United but a decision will have to be made on his future at Elland Road.

Greenwood has excelled on loan at Preston with the Lancashire Post (20 November) claiming he has "exceeded expectations" at Deepdale, rating him 7/10 for the season.

His Leeds future remains unclear, though. The 22-year-old is under contract at Leeds until the summer of 2026 although he could be moved on before that.

Sam Greenwood is unlikely to play a big part for Leeds United

Despite impressing on loan, it seems unlikely that Greenwood will make it as a first-team regular at Elland Road and cashing in on him while his stock is high may be a decision the club are forced to make.

Lancashire Post also reported that Preston are believed to have a buy option in the loan contract that they may opt to trigger if his performances continue to impress.

With four goal contributions this season, he has showcased his ability as a Championship player but Leeds may need more than that if they are to get promoted and, if they do, it is highly unlikely he will be deemed good enough to play a role in the Premier League.

Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford are just three of the forward options that Daniel Farke has at his disposal and it's hard to see any spot for Greenwood.

Leeds signed him for a reported £1.5million, it is more than possible that the Whites would be able to recoup that figure if they opted to sell.
