Leeds United are sat in an exciting position at the start of 2025 as they occupy the top spot in the Championship, sitting a point clear of Burnley and Sheffield United.

However, there is plenty of football yet to be played and, as it stands, it looks set to be a tight race for automatic promotion.

With this in mind, Daniel Farke will need to make additions to his squad this month to put the Whites in a strong position to take on the remainder of the campaign.

However, it is not just their own transfers that could have an impact on the fate of the West Yorkshire outfit this term.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post (7 January), James Trafford could be set to leave Burnley for Newcastle United for £20million in the January window, which could prove to be a boost for Leeds' hopes.

Leeds United could benefit from James Trafford transfer

With the race at the top of the Championship table a close one, the departure of Trafford from Turf Moor could be costly for Scott Parker's side, which would surely help Leeds' efforts.

The 22-year-old has been a standout performer in the second tier this term having kept 16 clean sheets from 25 performances throughout the campaign so far.

More impressively, the Clarets have conceded just nine goals throughout the season showing just how vital the goalkeeper is to Burnley's impressive form.

While Parker's side would surely be in a decent place to replace the player due to the fee they'd receive, there is surely no doubt that this would be a departure that would unsettle the squad with the quality of Trafford hard to replace.

With that in mind, Farke's side could find themselves have one less serious contender to come up against towards the end of the campaign. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
