Leeds United ‘surely set to sign’ Archer after Southampton transfer development
Leeds United could seal a deal for Cameron Archer after the latest transfer development at Southampton.
The Saints have agreed a fee with Royal Antwerp to sign Victor Udoh, according to Fabrizio Romano (2 February), which could open the door for the former Aston Villa man to leave St Mary’s.
The 23-year-old was left out of Ivan Juric’s squad for the 2-1 Premier League win against Ipswich (1 February) sparking speculation about his future.
The Whites are preparing a £15 million bid [TEAMtalk] after their initial offer for the England Under-21 international was rejected as Daniel Farke seeks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 3 February deadline tonight.
Archer would guarantee Leeds United promotion
The Whites increased their margin on third-placed Burnley to five points on Saturday with a 7-0 thrashing of Cardiff City.
However, given the unpredictable nature of the Championship, that gap could be bridged by the end of the season and the Elland Road club could find themselves in the playoffs again.
If the club can secure a deal for Archer that should give them the required firepower to seal their automatic promotion spot.

The young star notched 11 goals and six assists in his last stint in the second tier with Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 season.
The Elland Road outfit is in pole position for promotion right now but Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have been inconsistent this season so an upgrade is required.
The latest Southampton move could open the door for Archer to join the Whites and give Farke the attacking reinforcement that his side needs to get over the line.
In other Leeds news, the club’s stance on a deadline-busting move for an Armenian star has been revealed.
