Leeds United suffer first January blow as Rangers ace Leon King set for new deal
Victor Orta was all ready to start making moves in January but Leeds United have already seen one of their potential targets sign new terms.
According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, Rangers defender Leon King is now on the brink of signing a new deal at Ibrox which will keep him in Glasgow until 2026.
It was the former Guardian journalist who claimed on 10 October that the Whited were among a variety of Premier League sides keen on signing the 18-year-old Light Blues defender.
“Leon King, speaking about talents and this boy playing for Rangers, born in 2004 and started at Anfield against Liverpool in the Champions League,” he said on the Here We Go podcast [10 October].
“At the moment the situation is absolutely open with his contract. Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester United have sent their scouts to follow this boy with Rangers. Leon King, one to watch.”
Those scouting trips now seem like a total waste of time now that he is committing his future to the Scottish Premiership giants and any further pursuit will cost a whole lot more.

Orta and Jesse Marsch would be keen to add a central defender to their ranks if they could to further solidify the defence but you can’t see them splashing the cash on a player who has only just signed on the dotted line elsewhere.
This might not be the only touted transfer to not come through in January if previous transfer windows are anything to go by but at least this is one before the window has even happened, allowing time to find a different option.
Leeds United cannot afford another Bamba Dieng situation to happen in January with relegation still very much possible without a new striker at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, this midfielder should follow his teammate out of Thorp Arch to allow Marsch to complete his revolution of one department.
