Leeds United price for Calvin Ramsay will have gone up after SFWA Young Player of the Year win

The price for Leeds United target Calvin Ramsay will have increased after the Aberdeen player won the SFWA Young Player of the Year award this morning.

The youngster was named the best youngster in Scottish football by the writers north of the border to back up why he is in such high demand in England.

Alan Nixon reported in The Sun this week that the Whites were set to steal in in front of Liverpool to bring the 18-year-old to the club.

Nixon reported that the teenager would be available for as little as £3million, with the chance to feature in the first team at United far easier than if he were competing with Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield a key reason why the Whites could win the race.

But, knowing that a number of clubs are in the hunt for the player, this award recognition will likely allow the Dandies to demand more for him.

The SFWA lists Leicester, Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham as having scouted him this season, with Serie A side Bologna also interested.

Hot prospect

It is clear to see why the young Scot is attracting such wide interest, with the award capping off a season where he has made 32 first-team appearances and provided nine assists.

And even if the mooted £3million fee were to double or more, it would still make sense to consider him if the club have Premier League money.

Both United and Aberdeen are currently fighting to avoid relegation, which is a key factor in both the price, and the ability to follow through on the interest.

Should the Dons go down then it would likely temper any price increase for the player The Mirror are calling a “wonderkid”, but with the number of clubs in the chase a bidding war stop it collapsing entirely.

Conversely if Jesse Marsch is unable to keep the club in the top flight then their chances of landing this highly sought-after prospect will likely end.

With Luke Ayling now 30 and not at his best every game this season, competition and a potential replacement should be on the list for the summer.

Cody Drameh is another option after an impressive time on loan at Cardiff, and if Ramsay’s success were to end up pricing himself out of the Whites’ range, the young loanee would surely be the main beneficiary.

In other Leeds United news, The Athletic has shared key details in the contract talks between the club and a central first-team player.
