Leeds United need to cut their losses with struggling winger Helder Costa

Things might not be rosy for Leeds United in the Premier League this season but they are still better off than one of their current crop out on loan.

Helder Costa was sent out to Valencia in La Liga Santander in the summer with Marcelo Bielsa not including him in his plans for this season.

The Angolan winger headed to Spain with a point to prove but he has ended up proving the opposite of what he wanted.

Zero goals and just one assist in 15 games for Valencia has seen him fall out of favour with manager Jose Jimenez Bordalas and he isn’t making a case for Bielsa to change his mind.

They are struggling down in 12th in the Spanish top division and Costa’s lack of end product is hurting them.

According to CIES Football Observatory, which scientifically calculates a player’s transfer value, Costa now has a value of just £3.3million-£5.8million which is more than £10million less than the Whites paid for him from Wolves in 2020.

That is an enormous monetary loss in such a short space of time but that value is only going down the longer he struggles in Spain.

Maybe now is the time for Bielsa and Leeds to cut ties now and try to get as much as they can before his value plummets even further.

It’s a shame that things have turned out the way they have for the Angolan as he could have been a real star in Bielsa’s Leeds side but Raphinha’s introduction has rather stunted his growth with the club.

He seems resigned to be leaving Elland Road in the summer but it will be at a loss for the club.

In other Leeds United news, this Whites-linked star shone brightly in the Champions League yesterday, which is why Leeds have to sign him.
