Leeds United must sign instant Meslier upgrade in January after latest news

Leeds United must try and sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool in the January transfer window if they want to get themselves an instant upgrade on Illan Meslier.

Of all the players in the Whites’ team this season, Meslier has been one of the main culprits to have let the team down in the league this term.

He’s already made two massive blunders in their Championship clashes against Sunderland and, more recently, against Preston.

Aside from the Frenchman, Daniel Farke has constructed one of the most formidable defensive lines in the league and with Kelleher behind them, it feels like they’d be almost unstoppable.

And, as per a recent report from TEAMtalk (18 December), the Whites now reportedly have a “serious interest” in acquiring his services but that they would be unlikely to make a move unless Premier League promotion was achieved.

However, if Angus Kinnear could somehow persuade the Irishman to make the move to the second tier in January, it would be by far and away one of the best signings in thee Championship this season and perhaps help guarantee them promotion.

Caoimhin Kelleher would be an ideal match for Leeds United

At the moment, the Liverpool academy graduate is second in command for the Merseyside outfit but with the Reds welcoming Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer, it feels likely that Kelleher will be exiting Anfield in 2025.

The Irishman has been in impressive form this season across all competitions for the West Yorkshire outfit and while moving to Elland Road would be a step down from the current heights he’s experiencing, he’d be able to build a lasting legacy with the club.

He could also hold the key for their promotion to the Premier League as they wouldn’t have an error-prone ‘keeper between the sticks.

These are all rumours of course and a move is a long way away from being completed but it’s nice for fans to have something to dream about and potentially ponder as a possibility.

Especially since Arsenal have also recently shown an interest in acquiring the services of Meslier in the upcoming transfer windows.
