Leeds United may have to sell Archie Gray amid Manchester United interest after £190m update

Leeds United could well be forced to sell Archie Gray during the summer transfer window after new developments at Elland Road.

The 18-year-old has been in remarkable form Daniel Farke this season in the Championship, shining for the Whites both in midfield at right-back in his first full season of senior football in his career.

Gray’s good form hasn’t gone unnoticed by teams in the Premier League and beyond however, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich all being credited with an interest.

While Leeds are confident that they can keep the teenager at Elland Road this summer, especially if they win promotion to the Premier League, the financial situation in Yorkshire could see Farke’s hand forced in the transfer window.

Football Finance Expert Dan Plumley told MOT Leeds News (20 April) that the Whites could have to sell some of their biggest names if they don’t win promotion back to the Premier League after it was revealed they owe clubs £190million in unpaid transfer fees.

Will Archie Gray leave Leeds United in the summer transfer window?

While there are plenty of sellable assets in Farke’s squad at Elland Road, few are probably worth more than Gray. The midfielder’s age, profile and versatility means that Leeds United could command an exceptional transfer fee for his services.

While it remains to be seen whether the Whites will make an immediate return to the Premier League, they are currently trailing both Ipswich Town and Leicester City in the race for automatic promotion.

Should a big fee arrive at Thorp Arch for the 18-year-old’s services, it seems as though it would be almost impossible for Leeds to turn that fee down, especially now that it is public knowledge that they may have to sell players.

Hopefully, Leeds will win promotion and put all this potential transfer talk to bed before it even begins. If they miss out, however, speculation around Gray’s future is only going to continue to grow.
