Leeds United have Nick Hammond decision to make after Daniel Farke comments

Amid the summer chaos at Leeds United, there was one figure who arrived and proved a quietly influential figure.

That man was Nick Hammond, who was appointed in June as interim football advisor and played a big part in the selection process that brought Daniel Farke to Elland Road.

Since then Hammond worked closely with the German boss on plans for the transfer window, a busy one that saw players leave but also saw popular arrivals such as Joel Piroe, Joe Rodon and Glen Kamara.

Initially it was thought his stint at the club would come to an end around September or October but he will be around now to help with plans for January after it was confirmed he would stick around until at least the summer of 2024.

It was news that Farke himself was delighted by, telling a press conference on Tuesday (28 November) in quotes reported by LeedsLive: “It’s a perfect decision to keep him here longer, it’s a joy to work with him on a daily basis and the same with Angus [Kinnear] and Gretar [Steinsson].

“We’ve not got a big group, but it’s creating an atmosphere where we know each other from day to day more and more. I’m pretty pleased with this group and how much support we have in the football and many applause and credit goes to Nick.”

After the fiasco of the 2022-23 season, which resulted in relegation from the Premier League, there is a clear synergy right now between the technical team and the coaching team, relationships that are having an impact on the pitch with Leeds sitting third, and consequently providing a good standing with supporters too.

With Farke clearly enjoying a strong working relationship with Hammond there should now be plenty of energy put into convincing the latter to commit to remaining at the club for the long-term future.

Things are going well on and off the pitch right now and Hammond has been influential in helping first of all steadying the ship, then helping to set a course that could still lead to Leeds sailing back to the top flight.

Do the right thing and get him tied down for the foreseeable.
