Leeds United handed Buendia boost after what happened in Aston Villa v Brighton

Leeds United have been handed fresh hope in the race to sign Emi Buendia from Aston Villa.

The Whites have shown an interest in the Argentine since the summer transfer window with a view to adding Championship excellence to their side.

The 28-year-old won two titles with Norwich City before earning a club-record transfer to the Villans in 2021, amid interest from Arsenal.

It now appears that the attacking midfielder could be on his way out of Villa Park after once again being an unused substitute against Brighton on Monday (30 December).

Unai Emery’s side could only manage a point against the Seagulls despite going 2-1 up early on in the second half through Morgan Rogers.

Despite Tariq Lamptey netting an equaliser, the Spaniard opted not to bring Buendia on, preferring Jacob Ramsey who has spent the last 50 days on the treatment table.

This could prove to be the final blow for the ex-Getafe man in the West Midlands which could allow Daniel Farke – his manager at Norwich – to step in.

The one-cap Argentina international has had a general lack of football since suffering an injury in 2023 preseason but there is no doubt that he does possess useful qualities.

If the Whites can offer the diminutive attacking midfielder regular minutes across the second half of the Championship season, he could rediscover the form that tempted Villa to sign him.

The Villans may be keen to move Buendia out on loan which may suit all parties, especially after he missed out again against Brighton.
