Leeds United flop Mateusz Bogusz scores ‘absolute worldie’ as transfer mistake emerges
Mateusz Bogusz scored a world-class goal for LAFC to secure a 2-0 win in the MLS on Thursday (30 May). Should Leeds United regret letting him go?
The Polish midfielder moved to the MLS from Elland Road last March after four years with the club where he had three loan spells away.
The midfielder showed the quality that he possesses which may make Leeds fans sit up and take notice.
Against Minnesota United with the score at 1-0, Bogusz took aim from miles out and found the top corner with a bending and dipping effort.
The strike left the commentators screaming and former Rangers star Maurice Edu was left in shock.
He said: “When this ball finds itself to Bogusz, from that distance, it’s going to take something special. It is an absolute worldie.”
Was selling Mateusz Bogusz a mistake by Leeds United?
After spending so long with Leeds, there was hope that eventually the Pole would come good and take a place in the first team.
After loan spells with Ibiza where he made just 46 appearances across two seasons, scoring six goals [FotMob], the Whites cut ties.
He departed for the MLS in March 2023 and has gone on to make 59 appearances since in which time he has scored ten goals.
Bogusz has registered some excellent stats in Los Angeles where he has played as a central midfielder, out wide and as a striker on occasion.
This has seen him register 2.71 progressive carries, 1.34 successful take-ons where he has created 3.49 shots per 90 [Fbref].
Given that he has done this in the MLS, there is a chance that he could have translated this form into the Championship with Leeds.
As an option in the centre of midfield alongside the likes of Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev, Bogusz could have been useful for Daniel Farke.
In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke urged to sign Joe Rodon permanently this summer by former manager.
