Leeds United face Sonny Perkins transfer decision after what EFL boss has said

Leeds United have several members of their squad out on loan at the moment, with a lot of their youth talent getting their first taste of senior football.

The Whites have been in impressive form this season and currently sit at the top of the Championship table.

The West Yorkshire outfit’s academy is well known as one of the best in the country, with talents such as Archie Gray and Kalvin Phillips among those who have impressed in recent years.

Sonny Perkins is another player who seems to have a bright future ahead of him and, after what Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has said about wanting to sign him permanently, it seems that he thinks so too.

“I would like to swap my contract with [Tottenham loanee] Jamie Donley, so I doubt it”, he said in quotes relayed by LeedsLive (28 December). “I would like to swap contracts with Sonny Perkins, so I doubt it.

“But no, in those two cases there, the parent clubs, Leeds and Tottenham, have trusted us with the first stages of their development in terms of professional games. So, we treat that as a responsibility, we develop them, we 100 per cent want to keep them for the rest of the season.

“And let’s see where next season goes but I think Tottenham see Donley’s future in their first team eventually.”

Leeds United have a decision to make on Sonny Perkins

At the moment, the youngster seems to be thriving in League One with Orient, with the attacker contributing to seven goals across all competitions despite being just 20 years old.

When the 2024/25 campaign first kicked off, there were rumours about Perkins’ loan stint being cut short due to his underperformance but fortunately for both parties, things have seemingly worked out.

Leeds fans do not like Chelsea.

Since then, he’s been pivotal to the recent results Orient have earned and could have perhaps even given the Whites a reason to extend his Elland Road stay as he’s currently in the final year of his deal.

At the moment, nothing is yet set in stone but it feels like Daniel Farke has a real talent on his hand that could potentially become their Patrick Bamford successor in the future.

Which, if we’re being honest, is exactly the calibre of player that the German could do with as part of his ranks at the moment.
