Leeds United: Daniel Farke must calm down, what he said about Patrick Bamford could be detrimental

Leeds United are riding the crest of a wave at the moment with results going the Whites’ way and automatic promotion becoming a genuine possibility.

Daniel Farke’s side were excellent in the second half of their win over Sheffield Wednesday as they flexed their attacking muscles at Hillsborough to run out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Gnonto.

Bamford’s opener was an excellent header. It may not have been his most remarkable strike of the season, but it blew Farke away in the Leeds’ dugout and the German was quick to heap praise on the Englishman.

As quoted by Leeds Live on Sunday (10 March) he said: “Everyone speaks about the goal Bamford scored at Peterborough in the FA Cup – a worldie – but this goal tonight is for me also like a world-class striker goal.

“To have this instinct. Will Junior be there with the cross? To have the movement away from the opponent at the far post and then you still have to have the concentration to get the ball down.

“It wasn’t that easy to score and this is a sign of a top-class striker. When it counts you have to be there and you have to be clinical, so we are all happy that we have Patrick and also have him in his best shape.”

Will Leeds United win promotion to the Premier League with Patrick Bamford?

Farke has received a lot of praise for his man management since he arrived at Leeds United, but you have to worry if his latest comments about Bamford could be detrimental to the remainder of the striker’s season.

The Englishman has been at his best in the second half of the campaign when he has had a point to prove after a slow start to the season. If he starts to believe his own hype, it could come back to bite Farke and the Whites.

Bamford has been streaky throughout his career and it is safe to say that he is enjoying a hot streak at the moment where everything he touches turns to gold, but supporters have seen that change quickly before.

As Leeds push to make an immediate return to the Premier League, they will need their entire squad to be focused and together and they cannot allow any complacency to seep into their displays.

Hopefully, Farke’s latest comments will only boost Bamford’s confidence for the run-in, but Farke needs to calm down as his praise and excitement could ultimately send the wrong message to his team as they push to pip Ipswich to automatic promotion.
