Leeds ‘pave way for Rothwell transfer’ as £7.7m update emerges from Elland Road

Joe Rothwell may well be staying at Leeds United on a permanent basis amid a new transfer update emerging from Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has managed to build an excellent squad this season which has allowed his side to do as well as they have done in the Championship, leading the way at the summit with 11 games to go.

However, as the summer transfer window approaches, Leeds will need to be looking at making additions to their side too if they want to survive in the Premier League.

Rothwell transfer lined up for Leeds United

One man who has been a solid addition to the Leeds side this term is Rothwell, who joined the Whites on loan from Bournemouth for the campaign.

The 30-year-old has made 32 league appearances this season, having his part to play in the middle of the park.

It has been reported that if the Whites want to secure his services on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window, it will cost Leeds £7.5million to do so.

However, Bournemouth are said to be open to striking a deal should there be one offered on the table.

With the exit of Rasmus Kristensen now reportedly agreed, Leeds will have paved the way for the perfect transfer to secure Rothwell permanently.

Kristensen is set to depart Elland Road in the summer to join Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent basis, having spent the season there on loan so far.

The sale will bring in £7.7million to Leeds, which is an almost identical amount to what Bournemouth are after for Rothwell. On that basis, the stars have very much aligned.

Rothwell a deal worth making

The midfielder has certainly established himself in Farke’s side this season, and the boss will be keen to keep a core spine of his squad in place if Leeds can gain promotion up to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Not only does the 30-year-old know the squad well and shown the ability to play the role that his manager wants from him, but he also has the Premier League experience which could be vital.

The West Yorkshire outfit look to be well on their way to securing automatic promotion to the top flight as they sit five points clear of Burnley in third.

However, once they are up there, the Whites will be desperate to not come straight back down. Therefore, having the experience of Rothwell in the squad could be a key part of success next term.

Given the money that will be freed up due to the sale of Kristensen, this seems like a no-brainer for Leeds as they look ahead to life in the top flight.
