Leeds-linked striker tells club he wants to leave on loan/perm, could be done for £7m - reports

A career in print magazines that included editing PC Zone, launching PokerPlayer and redesigning The Big Issue has finally led Dave to writing about the love of his life, Leeds United. It’s been a tough 2020 but the single scariest moment was the first quarter of the game against Man City. Rodrigo will be the saviour this season.

Matej Vydra has told Burnley that he wants to leave Turf Moor in January, in search of first-team football.

With Vydra able to play as a striker and behind as a number 10, he would seem to be a perfect fit for Leeds.

Mondo Udinese linked Leeds with a move in this window and said the striker would cost £7m.

However, there is one big problem.

Leeds were seriously interested in Vydra before, in the summer of 2018 and a deal nearly happened.

However, Leeds were turned off the move when a meeting with Vydra went a bit sour after he showed little enthusiasm for the club and re-iterated his desire to move to the Premier League. Leeds moved for Bamford instead.

It's a case of be careful what you wish for. Vydra got his move to the Premier League but he's had a terrible time at Burnley.

He's not started in the Premier League this season and hasn't scored across six cameo appearances.

In total, he's made 25 appearances for Burnley and scored two goals.

Now, he wants a move to try and get himself back in the Czech Republic squad for Euro 2020.

However, would Leeds go back to a signing who didn't seem to want to join 18 months ago?

Athletic journalist Phil Hay doesn't think so although he said "football can be a funny game".

Most Leeds fans would accept Vydra, certainly if he came and got the goals Leeds need, but some still haven't forgiven him.

The other question mark over a move is his performance in the Premier League.

The LancsLive report says that a loan isn't being discounted but that both Vydra and Burnley would prefer a permanent move if the price is right.

He signed for £11m and Burnely are unlikely to get that sort of money back, so Leeds could afford a loan move with an obligation to buy.

LancsLive has said that a loan deal would also make a lot of sense and an option rather than an obligation may suit Leeds more. That might mean waiting until nearer the end of the window though.

There are plenty of Leeds fans who would take Vydra in a heartbeat. As the end of the window comes closer, it could well be a move that Leeds decide to row back on.
