Joel Piroe to ‘fear for Leeds game time’ amid new transfer development

Joel Piroe could be set to see his importance dwindle at Leeds United if promotion is earned this season.

The Whites currently sit top of the Championship and have one eye on the Premier League with just 14 games remaining of the season.

This hope was helped after Dan James inspired his side to a 4-0 win against Watford on Wednesday which put the LS11 club five points clear of third place Burnley.

If promotion from the second tier is achieved, Daniel Farke will be keen to improve his squad this summer which could see current stars see their minutes lessen.

Joel Piroe could get less minutes for Leeds United after Callum Wilson news

Piroe has arguably been the most important player at Elland Road so far this campaign, contributing with 20 goals and assists in the league so far.

With that being said, the Dutchman would feel hopeful of becoming a regular starter in the Premier League next season for the first time.

The nine-time England international is set to be available on a free transfer at the end of the campaign as his deal at St James’ Park runs down.

The 32-year-old would need to take a significant pay cut if he wanted to move to Yorkshire because he is one of the top earners with the Magpies right now despite falling down the pecking order.

It would be interesting to see where the ex-Bournemouth man would fit in the squad hierarchy under Farke, especially as a new signing.

But if he were to sign on the dotted line at Elland Road this summer then you can’t help but feel Piroe will be fearing over his game time.

Joel Piroe could seek a Leeds United exit this summer

Since signing from Swansea City last year, Piroe has proved that he is a reliable frontman in the Championship.

This has seen him net 28 goals for the Whites but could still be on the way out at the end of the campaign if Wilson comes in.

Given that Newcastle are fighting towards the top end of the Premier League and are closing in on a Champions League place, it would take some convincing to bring the striker to Elland Road.

That convincing process would likely involve a promise over regular minutes which would ultimately come at the expense of someone else.

Given that Mateo Joseph has youth and potential on his side, it could be Piroe whose importance falls away if the Premier League dream comes true in LS11.
