James Debayo will be gutted as Leeds United agree transfer terms

James Debayo will be gutted that Leeds United have signed Josuha Guilavogui as it pushes him further down the pecking order at Elland Road.

The Whites announced a deal for the ex-France international on a deal until the end of the campaign, on 23 October, in a move to cover for injuries.

With Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu both ruled out for a prolonged period, the 34-year-old will provide cover and add experience to the dressing room.

The former Atletico Madrid man has the versatility to also play in defence which could prove to be a blow to Debayo and his prospects at Elland Road.

The 19-year-old has featured regularly on the bench for the Whites in the Championship without yet making a first-team appearance.

Despite this, there would have been hope for the Thorp Arch Academy product that this season could be the one where he gets his chance under Daniel Farke.

With Ampadu out injured and his versatility missing from the side, the ex-England Under-18s international may have felt as if he was moving up the pecking order at Elland Road.

Now with the introduction of Guilavogui to the side and his ability to play at centre back, Debayo’s chances of first-team football may have been dealt a blow.

The 34-year-old spent the majority of his spell with Mainz playing in the back line, as opposed to midfield, so has the pedigree and ability to cover that role well.

This experience at the back could prove to be vital as the season goes on but is certainly going to leave Debayo frustrated if his spell on the bench continues.
