Illan Meslier Leeds United future now surely sealed after latest transfer news
Daniel Farke has already said that he doesn’t expect it to be a busy January transfer window for Leeds United this time around but the rumours surrounding some of his players says otherwise.
In the summer, the Whites raised significant funds thanks to the sales of both Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville to name just two.
And, after Leeds narrowly missed out on regaining their Premier League status at the first time of asking after they lost 1-0 in the playoff final to Southampton, it was evident that some change was needed.
This season, the West Yorkshire outfit are second in the table but would no doubt be at the top if it wasn’t for some of the mistakes Illan Meslier has made this season.
Over the last couple of months, speculation about the Frenchman’s future has started to rise more and more and now Leeds are showing a “serious interest” in Allsvenskan’s Noel Tornqvist, it feels like his fate is sealed (Fotboll Direkt, 25 December).
Why could the transfer of Noel Tornqvist mean the end of Illan Meslier at Leeds United?
Within Farke’s ranks at the moment, Meslier is the German’s clear first-choice between the sticks but back-up goalkeeper Karl Darlow isn’t far off him in terms of ability.
Tornqvist may only be 22-years-old so he might not instantly take the starting role in the West Yorkshire outfit’s set-up but Darlow could more than easily slot into that position.
The Welshman has recently been chosen as a starter for Craig Bellamy’s Wales squad and has more than lived up to expectations when called upon.
Although there have been times when Meslier has proven his worth, with the interest shown in him by teams such as Manchester United recently, it doesn’t feel all that likely that he’s going to stay at Elland Road much longer.

In one way, it’s a good thing because his blunders against both Sunderland and Preston this season have no doubt cost the club points and by the end of the season, he could have even caused them to miss out on promotion.
Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, everything still seems to be up in the air.
