Georginio Rutter can pay back fee and more if he continues to perform for Leeds United

Georginio Rutter has enjoyed a flying start to the Championship season, and if he can help Leeds United to promotion, and smash some records in the process, he will prove to be worth every penny of his £35million fee.

Leeds parted with that fee to bring Rutter to Elland Road in January and having since suffered from relegation, it has been the Championship where the Frenchman has proved his worth.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has brought to attention [10 October] that Rutter looks set to smash the record for big chances created in the second tier, with his ten so far putting him on track for a record high.

His ten big chances created from ten appearances so far, at a rate of one per appearance, would see him create 46 big chances over the course of the season. Of course, that’s unlikely, but with the current record belonging to Ryan Giles at 23, there is a high chance Rutter could smash the record.

His two Championship goals and three assists so far have helped Leeds reach fifth in the table despite an inconsistent start, but the team will continue to reach as high up the table as possible.

If the Frenchman can continue the rest of the season in the same vein which he has started, he could secure one of the most lucrative achievements in football, firing Leeds back into the Premier League.

The Championship Playoffs have long been referred to as the most lucrative prize in football, as The Athletic reported the playoff winners will receive around £170million over the following three seasons, rising to over £290million if they can stay up at the first time of asking.

If Rutter can prove the difference between promotion and stagnation for Leeds United, then he will have repaid every penny laid out on bringing him to the club and then some.

In other Leeds United news, one consistently brilliant player has flown under the radar this season.
