Farke may already regret Gelhardt decision at Leeds United after what’s happened
Leeds United have had one main goal since the start of the 2024/25 season and that was to earn promotion to the Premier League.
While things are going fairly well in that regard at the moment with the Whites flying high at the top of the Championship, there’s likely still a feeling lingering in the back of fans’ heads about whether they have enough to carry this on until the end of the campaign.
Especially after what happened last season when they finished third in the second tier after a gruelling Championship campaign.
Their summer additions have bolstered their ranks tenfold and while a new number nine is likely what’s needed the most at the West Yorkshire outfit, no moves seem to be getting made in that regard.
And, the fact that Daniel Farke chose to loan out Joe Gelhardt for the rest of the campaign could end upbeing a massive slip-up on the German’s part, especially with the spotty form of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph.
Why could Joe Gelhardt’s transfer cost Leeds United promotion?
Since making the switch to Hull, Gelhardt has made himself one of Ruben Selles’ prized possessions with the attacker already being compared to Wayne Rooney after the performance he put in on his debut.
While this is all well and good for the Tigers and Gelhardt, it’s hard to not feel like Leeds have messed up by sending the former Wigan man out on loan.

He wasn’t chosen all that often in the first half of the campaign but now he’s shown what he’s capable of after his first couple of games under Selles, it feels like Farke could have really used a player of his calibre in their promotion run.
If he was kept at Elland Road, he could have been the new man to lead the Whites’ line and perhaps become a vital part of their promotion charge.
Moreover, you have to wonder if Farke is regretting not affording him more opportunities before his temporary departure given how well he has started at Hull. Time will tell whether it was a wise decision.
In other Leeds news, the Whites could sanction a “controversial” Jack Harrison return to Elland Road.
