Daniel Farke is damaging the chances of Leeds United by utilising Patrick Bamford as a substitute.

The Whites could only secure a late point against Preston on Saturday (14 December) thanks to a Jack Whatmough own goal, forced by a Mateo Joseph flick.

The Spain Under-21s international had a telling impact as a substitute and should have been brought on with more than eight minutes remaining.

Farke needs to hand more opportunities to the young striker and stop trusting Bamford as he isn't repaying that faith.

The ex-England international came on with 65 minutes gone, giving him a decent period of time to make a difference for the away side at Deepdale.

He didn't make this count as the 31-year-old missed a guilt-edged chance just moments after coming on.

Dan James rolled the ball across the six-yard line and the ex-Chelsea forward opted to try and back heel it home - this didn't come off as his effort rolled wide.

Given that the striker hasn't scored a goal since April, the decision to try clever flicks seems wrong and he would be better off just doing the basics.

Luckily for Bamford, Joseph came on and helped to earn a point for the Whites which may have been avoided on another day.

Looking ahead to a clash against Oxford United next Saturday (21 December), Farke has to utilise his young forward over the Englishman, who could be out the door in the coming weeks and months.
