Emi Buendia transfer: Farke ‘feels blue’ at Leeds as new loan-to-buy offer ready

Daniel Farke will be a disappointed figure at Leeds United as a new bid is readied for Emiliano Buendia.

Although the Whites were never expected to be busy in this winter transfer window, there were suggestions that they might target an attacking midfielder.

The Elland Road outfit, therefore identified Buendia of Aston Villa as a target, albeit an “ambitious” one [Alan Nixon].

Buendia achieved significant success under Farke at Norwich City, bagging 24 goals and 41 assists in 121 appearances across all competitions, thus making a potential reunion all the more exciting.

However, the German tactician will be feeling blue about the latest transfer news involving the one-time Argentina international.

According to Sky Sports Germany (25 January), Bayer Leverkusen are considering signing the 28-year-old on loan with an option to buy this window.

Leeds United at serious disadvantage in Emiliano Buendia chase

Sky Deutschland also reported that Aston Villa are demanding to include an obligation for Leverkusen to buy Buendia in their agreement, while another club are also still in the mix.

While it is unclear if Leeds are that unnamed club, they are at a serious disadvantage in the race to sign the former Norwich ace.

The West Yorkshire outfit are on course to earn promotion to the Premier League as they sit atop the Championship table after 28 games.

However, Leverkusen are not only the reigning Bundesliga champions, but also a competitive contender in the UEFA Champions League, where they are placed eighth in the 36-team table after seven games.

Leeds may struggle to compete against the lure of Champions League football – a competition Buendia, who also has been mooted as a possible “excellent” signing for River Plate [DSports Radio], has started only once in for Villa.

It now remains to be seen if Farke can pull some strings to take the Argentinian to Elland Road, having worked with him at Norwich.

If not, the Championship table-toppers can bin their hopes of signing Buendia from Aston Villa for the second half of the season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a move to sign this Championship striker before the window closes.
