Daniel Farke ‘to regret Junior Firpo decision’ amid Leeds contract update

Junior Firpo has proven his importance at Leeds United this season.

The Dominican Republic international has been a key member of Daniel Farke‘s side as they have forged their way towards Premier League football next season.

The 28-year-old struggled in his previous stint in the top-flight but after his renaissance in the Championship, he is ready to have another crack at the highest level.

However, he may not get the chance after a new update emerged from Elland Road.

Firpo set to leave Leeds United

Firpo is out of contract at Leeds in the summer and no agreement has been reached between the two parties on an extension.

Just months remain on his current deal in LS11 and it seems that he has made his decision on where his future lies.

A report from TEAMtalk (18 March) claims that a return to Spain is the most likely solution and the Whites star looks “increasingly unlikely” to stay in Yorkshire.

Leeds United will regret Firpo exit

The Peacocks ace has emerged as one of the best players in the Championship and looks ready to take on the top-flight challenge once again, having notched nine assists and three goals this season.

However, he may not get the chance to test himself against the very best after the new development, which would be a huge shame.

If Firpo does leave Elland Road, Leeds will have to add left-back to the ever-growing list of recruitment focuses in the summer transfer window.

The squad already needs major improvement, as the level between the divisions seems to be at an all-time high, with last season’s promoted teams on the verge of coming straight back down after just one campaign.

Keeping the experienced defender around would be the best solution for Farke’s side, given his impact on the side and the difficulty of trying to find a quality replacement or using Isaac Schmidt or Sam Byram.

Surely the wages that they would have to pay Firpo would be cheaper than replacing the Dominican ace and would leave the Whites with less work to do in the offseason ahead of a return to the elite level.
