Daniel Farke to cause Leeds United unrest with what he said after win v Cardiff City

Daniel Farke is never one to make changes if his Leeds United starting XI is scoring goals, dictating play and keeping the ball out of the back of the net.

That was very clear during the 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday 21 September, having waited until the 84th minute to make any changes despite only being one goal up against 10 men.

Of course, one of those changes worked out for the better as Joel Piroe came on to score Leeds’ second and guarantee all three points against the Bluebirds.

Still, he is not afraid to upset players in his squad with selections or substitutions, and that was made abundantly clear following his comments after the victory.

Speaking in his press conference, quoted by Leeds Live [24 September], Farke said: “We looked so much in control over the game and I didn’t want to risk this. We have some good options on the bench, but I’m not there to win the Nobel Peace Prize, to make everyone happy in my squad.

“I’m there to win football games and, it just felt we don’t give one chance away.”

Daniel Farke to cause unrest in the Leeds United squad?

The goalscorer, Piroe, is certainly one player who knows Farke is telling the truth when saying he couldn’t care less about making everyone in the squad happy.

Despite arriving on a £10million deal from Swansea City last summer [BBC Sport], the Dutchman has made all of his league appearances from the bench so far this term, scoring against Hull City and Cardiff.

While he has taken his opportunities when sent on for a short cameo, Farke continues to drop him back to the bench for the next game, and it is not just Piroe who is likely to be frustrated.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke
Daniel Farke is in his second season as Leeds United manager

Max Wober has only been given 63 minutes of game time, which came in the EFL Cup defeat to Middlesbrough, while Joe Gelhardt has played one minute and was left out of the squad to face Cardiff.

Of course, fans are not expecting the manager to switch things up when the current starting XI is having so much success, but if he is not careful, he may have a few unhappy players to deal with once the January transfer market rolls around.

In other Leeds United news, Farke will regret missing one summer transfer as “incredible” footage emerges.
