Daniel Farke ‘has got to be kidding’ with shock Patrick Bamford update at Leeds

Daniel Farke has made a baffling Patrick Bamford admission after Leeds United failed to sign a striker during the winter transfer window.

It was clear that the Whites were desperate to improve their side in forward areas throughout January, pushing to make a signing until the deadline on 3 February.

This saw attempts made to bring in Cameron Archer and Adam Armstrong, which both failed before the latter made a late switch to West Brom.

As a result, the LS11 club must work with what they’ve got until the summer, but even if that is the case, comments made about Bamford still don’t make sense.

Daniel Farke baffles Leeds United fans with Patrick Bamford admission

The window slammed shut at 11pm on Monday (3 February) with no signing coming in, while a bid for Mateo Joseph was rejected.

Now that there is nothing that can be done at Elland Road, the squad will remain the same for the rest of the campaign and Farke has to back his players.

This was the case on 4 February as he spoke in his press conference ahead of Wednesday night’s (5 February) clash against Coventry City.

Transcribed by Beren Cross, the German head coach said: “We have a striker outstanding at this level for four years. Piroe. We have Mateo, let’s assume the rumours were right with offers for double figures.

“A sign of his quality. Important, a top striker. I value Patrick Bamford.”

This last line on Bamford will come as a surprise to many fans given that the 31-year-old has gone nearly ten months without a goal.

As a result, the Whites can not truly rely on the one-cap England international, especially if the Elland Road club want to earn promotion to the Premier League.

A new striker like Archer or Armstrong would have been much more effective, regardless of what Farke is telling supporters.

While he may be attempting to save face with his comments, at the same time protecting the club, he is fooling nobody.

In other Leeds United news, Farke is surely risking a transfer request in LS11 after what’s happened recently.
