Daniel Farke can breathe sigh of relief at Leeds United after new Wilfried Gnonto update
Leeds United supporters will have spent the international break with their fingers crossed hoping none of Daniel Farke’s side return to Elland Road with injuries.
There is nothing worse as a football fan than seeing one of your club’s most important players ruled out for an extended period of time with a knock that they picked up while they weren’t even playing for you.
While it remains to be seen whether Max Wober will return to the UK fit and ready to feature against Burnley on Saturday (14 September) the Whites can breathe a sigh of relief after a new Wilfried Gnonto update.
Is Leeds United gem Willy Gnonto injured?
Fears emerged around Elland Road that the Italian winger could be set for a spell on the treatment table after he was forced off the field with a knock during a clash between Italy U21s and San Marino [Friedkinismo, 5 September].
Although the winger had contacted the club himself to insist that he was not injured, there were still some fears among supporters that the issue could have been more severe than suggested [Tutto Mercato Web, 7 September].
However, any lingering concerns for Farke or the fans can now be brushed to one side as Gnonto has been named in the Azzurri’s starting XI for the showdown with Norway on Tuesday (10 September).
Of course, the attacker still has to make it through the match without picking up any new issues before supporters can rest completely, but the initial indications suggest any knock hasn’t left lasting damage.
Hopefully, the 20-year-old will be fit and ready to play a part for Farke’s side in what could be their first genuine promotion clash with Scott Parker’s Clarets at Elland Road.
Having put pen to paper on a new deal with Leeds United, it feels as though the time has come for Gnonto to become the main man at Leeds and show that he has what it takes to replace Crysencio Summerville.
If all goes to plan, he can get the Whites’ campaign back underway against Burnley and add to his Championship scoring account for the season.
