Leeds United are currently on the hunt for a new midfielder after injury issues and pulling the plug on a potential deal for Cheikhou Kouyate.

Daniel Farke will be without Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev for several months after serious injury blows.

As a result, Leeds are left with Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka to fill the vacancies, with both shining in the massive 2-0 win against Sheffield United on 18 October.

Cheikhou Kouyate transfer off at Leeds United

It wouldn't hurt to have more strength in depth in midfield, but the Whites made the right decision not to sign off on a deal for Kouyate after an issue arose in his medical which would have kept him on the sidelines for weeks [talkSPORT, 17 October].

While the 34-year-old is an experienced head and was recently playing in the Premier League, the German manager needs someone who can immediately fill the void in his squad.

After months of having no club, you would have thought that Kouyate would be keeping himself at the top level, with this issue seemingly making him throw away the chance to move to Elland Road.

The 2-0 win over Sheffield United proved that the gaffer can count on Rothwell and Tanaka for the time being, but it remains to be seen whether the club will turn their attention to any other players in the next few days to address the midfield injury crisis.

It is certainly one to watch in LS11.
