Brenden Aaronson must perform for USA v New Zealand to keep Leeds United starting XI role
Brenden Aaronson must have a positive performance for the USA against New Zealand on Tuesday 10 September to stay in the Leeds United starting XI.
The 23-year-old started for the Stars and Stripes against Canada but was taken off after failing to have an impact on the game in a 2-1 defeat.
Now Mikey Varas’ side are preparing to welcome the Kiwis to Cincinnati as they look to end this international break on a positive note.
The Leeds star will be hopeful of getting among the goals to cement his place in Daniel Farke’s starting XI for the clash against Burnley on Saturday (14 September).
Brenden Aaronson must make Leeds United impression
The attacking midfielder returned to Elland Road after a loan spell at Union Berlin and was met with jeers from the home supporters.
This negative view of the former RB Salzburg man has subsided, mainly thanks to goals against Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday to begin the season.
Aaronson has started two Championship games while being substituted on in the other two with Farke showing some faith in him.
With that being said, ahead of the clash against Scott Parker’s side, the German may opt to start Joel Piroe in the number ten role over the American.
Given how much travelling the attacker will have to do before the 12:30pm clash, this could prove to make sense for all parties.

It is now in the 23-year-old’s hands to put in a positive performance against New Zealand to make his club manager’s decision harder to make.
If he can get on the scoresheet for his country, this could spark a positive run of form which will have the Whites’ fans backing him even further.
