49ers need to give Daniel Farke Leeds United gift by signing ‘Outstanding’ ace

Leeds United have been rather dominant in the Championship this season.

The West Yorkshire outfit currently sit second in the table and are just one point adrift of league leaders, Sheffield United thanks to their 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough.

While they’ve been a more than worthy side to gain automatic promotion this season, it hasn’t come without struggles with players such as Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev both being sidelined for extended periods.

However, as a result of their injuries, it’s allowed Daniel Farke to experiment with two players that he brought in over the summer that have since helped the Whites challenge at he top.

Those players being Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell. However, the latter of the two has been the one who’s impressed the most recently, with Neil Redfearn even describing his performance against Middlesbrough on Tuesday 10 December as “outstanding”.

“For me, Joe Rothwell, I thought he was outstanding tonight,” he said on the West Yorkshire Sport Daily Show (10 December, 5:00).

“It was not so much the stuff he did that took the eye it was the stuff that he did when he chased back and won tackles and covered for his teammates and got into positions.

“Countless times where he read the game brilliantly, obviously an astute football brain and he’s central now to a lot of things that Leeds do and I thought he was absolutely superb tonight.”

Daniel Farke has a tough decision to make for Leeds United between Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka

The last couple of months or so have seen the relationship between Tanaka and Rothwell flourish, but with Ampadu now getting back into the action, it’s likely that one will have to make way for the Welshman to fit back into the first team.

However, as both players have been in impressive form recently, it’s left Farke in a bit of a pickle.

Both midfielders have a much more attacking nature to the way they play than the former Chelsea man and have in fact helped increase the attacking chances Leeds get.

However, as Ampadu is the club’s captain, it’s hard to see how the German can leave him out of the starting XI for much longer.

At the moment, it feels like Rothwell will get the nod and if his form continues, the ideal January gift for Leeds would be for the 49ers to sign him permanently.

Only time will tell what the future holds, but if the West Yorkshire outfit doesn’t make his Elland Road stay permanent, there’s no doubt that another team will come swooping in.
