49ers get chequebook out again as Leeds United set for Glen Kamara transfer

Leeds United owners, the 49ers Enterprises are finally ready to get their chequebook out again as they are set to agree on a deal for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, according to The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper shared the news on 22 August that Kamara is closing in on a £5.5million move to Elland Road after the Yorkshire side advanced their efforts to sign him in the last 24 hours.

This will be the first permanent transfer through the doors at Leeds since Karl Darlow joined for around £400,000 on 29 July, almost a full month ago, after new chairman Paraag Marathe promised the club would be “aggressive” in the transfer market [Yorkshire Post, 18 July].

So far, Leeds’ expected aggression in the transfer market has fallen short of many fans’ expectations, with Kamara set to join as their fourth incoming signing of the summer following permanent deals for Darlow, Ethan Ampadu and a loan deal for Spurs defender Joe Rodon.

It was shared by the Yorkshire Evening Post [2 August] that any money received from outgoing transfers would be reinvested into strengthening the squad, so the £23million war chest received from Tyler Adams’ exit already looks like it is being put to good use here.

The £5.5million deal would see a further £17.5million of the Adams money ready to be invested across the rest of the squad as the 49ers look to loosen the purse strings and provide Daniel Farke with a stronger squad as the transfer window draws nearer its end.

One glaring weakness in the Leeds United squad is at striker, with concerns over Patrick Bamford’s fitness proving to be accurate as the striker suffered an injury before the season began, leaving just Georginio Rutter and youngster Mateo Joseph to pick up the pieces.

There is no doubt the 49ers will be looking to bring in a new forward, particularly if they receive further transfer windfalls from Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra who are widely linked with moves away from Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, a £20m twist has emerged as Leeds may miss out on a striker deal.
