Sam Matterface shares when new owners will be in place at Leeds United after relegation confirmed

Sam Matterface has claimed that new owners will be in place at Leeds United by the time the transfer window opens on June 14th for the Championship.

The Whites saw their relegation to the Championship confirmed on Sunday (28 May) after a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham at Elland Road on the final day.

Fans have been furious with the board for months and with Andrea Radrizzani set to takeover at Sampdoria with the 49ers coming in at Leeds, Matterface told talkSPORT (29 May, 10:42) that it should be done in the coming weeks.

“He’s been talking about his future, and he spoke to us last night about that,” he said.

“A new owner is going to be in place by June 14th when the transfer window opens for the Championship, but is Big Sam going to be in charge?”

Sooner the better

The sooner Radrizzani is out of the door at Elland Road and new owners are in place at the club, the better for Leeds United.

He did a great job during his first years at the club and got us to the promised land after 17 years away, but ultimately he stopped helping and became more of a hindrance in recent seasons by putting far too much faith in his staff.

The 49ers are ready to come in and spend as well to get the team back to where we belong, but if they’re made to wait to complete a takeover it will only affect the team negatively in the transfer window and for the new season.

It’s a huge summer now for Leeds to get things right and ensure this is just a hiccup rather than our new reality, and that means making big decisions on players, staff and the board.

If things are in place before the transfer window opens then it’s a good sign of things to come, so we can only keep our fingers crossed that Matterface is right about this.
