Leeds United takeover now one to watch after news from United States
Leeds United’s takeover from the San Francisco 49ers has been thrown into doubt with US owners putting their Premier League clubs up for sale recently.
Liverpool and Manchester United’s owners FSG and The Glazers respectively recently admitted they were open to selling the clubs, after news came last month that the 49ers had secured funding to take full ownership from Andrea Radrizzani in the summer of 2023.
But while responding to a fan question about ownership during a Q&A with LeedsLive, journalist Beren Cross admitted that the situation is “one to watch”
“It is interesting what’s gone on in the States with Liverpool and Man United’s owners,” they wrote.
“There are clearly reasons behind their decisions and you wonder if they affect 49ers in the same way. There has been nothing to suggest a changing of circumstances in that regard, but it’s one to watch in this void of information of progress we have seen from San Francisco for a long time.”

It would be a huge blow for Leeds if they had waited this long for the major investment of from the San Francisco 49ers, only for them to pull out at the last minute.
This has obviously been a long term plan from them to get involved in the Premier League with Leeds, but something interesting is certainly going on with US investors in England because for both Liverpool and Man United to be up for sale at the same time is unprecedented.
If that makes the 49ers group think twice and potentially not take up their option to take over the club, then we could be left in a position where we have an owner who is looking for a way out and won’t invest.
That is likely to cause huge issues with the likes of transfer window and squad investment, which would almost certainly see the Whites involved in more relegation trouble and more problems on the pitch.
Hopefully this can get over the line and we can have some owners who want the best for us and are willing to truly invest, and this is just a coincidence.
