Leeds United manager update: Brendan Rodgers update emerges as Celtic lose Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham
Brendan Rodgers appears to off the market for the immediate future, removing a favoured option for Leeds United of both 49ers Enterprises and Andrea Radrizzani.
Therefore the plan for who takes over from Sam Allardyce looks to have taken a major hit whichever side of the ownership negotiations eventually ends up in charge at Elland Road.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay had suggested that the Americans would be “very tempted to land” someone like the former Leicester boss [The Phil Hay Show, 26 May, 25m 30s], and the Daily Star reported on 2 June that the current chairman is a “huge admirer” of the Northern Irishman.
But amid managerial developments that saw Rodgers linked to the newly-vacant position back at former club Celtic, it looks like it will be impossible for the Hoops or the Whites to bring him in.
Ange Postecoglou has agreed to take over at Tottenham [Fabrizio Romano, 5 June] after winning a domestic treble in Scotland, and Rodgers was quickly linked to a return to Parkhead where he won two trebles of his own.
But The Sun report that he is not currently set to move anywhere, saying: “Sunsport has learned Rodgers is expected to take time away from the game before planning his next career move.”

An answer is needed at the top of the Elland Road hierarchy very soon either way or it won’t just be Rodgers who is off the market, with the likes of Graham Potter, Steven Gerrard and Regis Le Bris also having other suitors.
It would have been tricky although not impossible for the Whites to convince Rodgers to snub interest from elsewhere as a Championship club either way, but the latest update appears to have ended hopes.
Whoever does come in is going to have a lot on their plate immediately, with transfer departures expected in light of relegation and major decisions needed about the plan for next season in the Championship.
The FA Cup winner would have been a great appointment for that but looks to be out of reach, just like so many of the preferred options proved to be during the season.
So the uncertainty rolls on at Elland Road at a key time for the club, while moves continue to be made elsewhere.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are tipped to miss out on “huge amounts of money” this summer with the expected exit of a star man.
