Wayne Rooney quickly cut off in Leeds United relegation prediction on Match of the Day

Wayne Rooney was shut down as he discussed Leeds United on Match of the Day.

The former England captain was on pundit duty as highlights of the Whites' 3-1 win over Burnley were showcased.

There was plenty to appreciate about Daniel Farke's side after a superb performance to all but seal a place in the Premier League for next season.

Anton Stach's strike was superb, as was Noah Okafor's, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin did what he does to tap home from inside the penalty area.

That all prompted a question of Leeds and the threat of relegation this season, one which Rooney was stopped from answering properly.

The ex-Manchester United striker certainly doesn't have the best reputation around Elland Road for obvious reasons.

Having signed for the Red Devils and become a club legend and all-time top goalscorer at Old Trafford, that clearly won't go down well in LS11.

That is always going to raise questions when he is asked questions about Leeds when speaking on something like Match of the Day.

He did exactly that in the most recent edition as the best bits of the win over Burnley were shown last on Saturday's programme.

The win was followed by a question from Gabby Logan about the Whites' safety and whether they will remain in the division this campaign.

She asked: "Not mathematically safe yet, but can you assure Leeds fans that they will be in the Premier League next season?"

Joe Hart laughed as he replied: "I don't think Wazza will want to do that, but I think they've got a good chance, yeah."

Rooney still gave his opinion: "I think they will, I think they will, so-"

He was quickly cut off by Logan, who shut him down, saying: "Thank you. That's a yes then."

Leeds secured a massive win over Burnley, and that should be enough to keep them in the division for another season.

Rooney right on Leeds survival hopes

As it stands, Tottenham remain in the bottom three on 34 points, while West Ham sit narrowly above them on 36.

Nottingham Forest are 16th on 39, leaving a healthy gap to Leeds before the Reds play against Chelsea on Sunday.

There are now four points separating Leeds and Forest, with Farke's side above the drop zone by nine points with just three games to go.

It would take a turnaround never seen before for the LS11 outfit to go down now, especially given how bad Spurs have been recently.
