Charlie Cresswell Leeds United career surely over after new Daniel Farke comments
Charlie Cresswell’s future at Leeds United is surely non-existent after Daniel Farke’s most recent comments about the defender’s playing time.
The young defender was handed a new long-term contract at Elland Road and the number five shirt in the summer after a successful loan spell at Millwall, with many seeing him as the future of the club’s centre of defence.
However Cresswell has featured for just 340 minutes across all competitions this season, with plenty of clubs lining up for a potential January transfer this month.

Farke has previously been complimentary about the 21-year-old’s mentality and his presence around the club, even when being left out of match-day squads on a regular basis. He has also been described as “unreal” by teammates.
But the manager changed his tune during his pre-Cardiff press conference when asked directly about the defender’s future and admitted that he’s been unhappy with his lack of focus.
“He won’t be picked by me until he is mentally ready,” Farke said. “I totally get Charlie’s points but the ball is in his court.”
The manager confirmed he is behind Joe Rodon in the current pecking order while Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper and even Ethan Ampadu have been picked ahead of him in recent weeks.
And with the manager confirming that the player is unhappy at his lack of minutes and that Leeds would be open to selling him if he asked to leave and the club received an acceptable offer, it seems like his time at the club is set to come to an end.
From being the future of the club to seemingly having no future at the club, Cresswell has had a very eventful rollercoaster of a year. Leeds may be playing this all wrong, but if the ball is truly in his court then an exit this month should not be ruled out.
