YEP journalist: Marcelo Bielsa constantly demanding more from this Leeds player

Leeds United made it two wins from three in the Premier League on Saturday, beating Sheffield United 1-0 in the Yorkshire derby.

Marcelo Bielsa didn’t change much once again, bringing in Tyler Roberts for Rodrigo in the playmaker role at Bramall Lane.

Roberts was replaced at half-time, and with no fans, it was clear that Bielsa was demanding more from the Welsh international.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth claimed that Bielsa is almost “constantly” demanding more movement from the 21-year-old.

“Unless you’re Tyler Roberts,” he told the YEP Leeds United podcast.

“In which case it’s ‘move, Tyler, move’ – I’ve noticed that is a theme that he almost constantly on Roberts to move more.

“Maybe it’s that Roberts isn’t doing as much movement or the correct movement, I’m not quite sure but it’s a theme that he seems to be a player that Bielsa feels he needs to constantly remind to be on the move.”

With Pablo Hernandez missing, Bielsa has been swapping between two strikers who are both capable of featuring in the playmaker role.

Roberts has been moved back into that role in the past year, and that is where he mainly featured in the Championship run-in after lockdown last season.

The 21-year-old had his worst game yet this season statistically at Bramall Lane, completing no significant movements, and have a poor pass success rate of 66.7% [WhoScored].

Rodrigo had his best game yet to contradict that, having three shots on goal and nearly double the number of touches that Roberts managed.

Based on those stats, it appears likely that Bielsa will be demanding those movements from Rodrigo from the start against Manchester City.
