Phil Hay: Cody Drameh likely had no Leeds United future with Marcelo Bielsa, Jesse Marsch could change that

Phil Hay has insisted that Jesse Marsch could open the door for Leeds United talent Cody Drameh and give him a chance.

The Athletic journalist admitted that Marcelo Bielsa was left enraged by the defenders’ decision to push a loan move to Cardiff City back in January.

It was suggested that if Bielsa was still at Elland Road, it would be hard to see a future for the former Fulham sensation.

Writing in a piece for The Athletic, Hay shared the latest state of play for one of the most promising youngsters at Elland Road.

“Drameh has a contract to 2024, so from Leeds’ perspective he is tied down for now,” he wrote. “Had Bielsa remained as head coach at Elland Road it was hard to see a future for Drameh.

“Bielsa was extremely frustrated by the defender’s decision to push for a loan. But with Jesse Marsch in charge, the door might open again — and if not, there will be plenty of interest from the Championship.”

Enraged.

This is certainly a no brainer.

Bielsa may have been enraged by the decision not to stick at the club, but that only proves how highly he was rated by El Loco.

Drameh has gone away, played every single week and has even been nominated for the Player of the Year award at Cardiff.

He only arrived in January, so that just proves how effective he has been down that right-hand side, somewhere we don’t have great cover.

Luke Ayling has suffered from injuries this season and hasn’t been at his best consistently in the Premier League.

Could having Drameh here next season ready to step in and offer brilliant competition help more than just the youngster? It looks like it.

Marsch will want to take a good look at everyone over the summer, and that means Drameh will be given the chance – he has to take it.
