‘Not quite sure’ – Newcastle mainstay questions rulings after 5-2 thrashing v Leeds
Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden has questioned the rules and why his side weren’t given a penalty in their 5-2 defeat against Leeds United.
The Magpies were left fuming after Liam Cooper wasn’t penalised for his apparent foul on Callum Wilson at the start of the second half.
Both the officials and VAR reviewed the footage and quickly waved away claims from Steve Bruce’s side at Elland Road.

Hayden has claimed that players in the Premier League are questioning what is and isn’t a foul after his side didn’t get the decision they were craving.
Writing on his personal Twitter account after the defeat, the midfielder claimed the overall performance was unacceptable, but that tackling is becoming far too debatable.
“Not quite sure what the rules are anymore, can’t tackle and dare touch the other player,” he said.
“Unacceptable end to the game tonight, bumps along the way are to be expected but we need to react quickly for the weekend.”
Hayden was also booked at Elland Road, with the officials far too card happy by dishing out plenty of bookings to both sides in West Yorkshire.

Mark Clattenburg claimed after the game that Newcastle should have been given a penalty, as Cooper didn’t the ball – something most pundits also agreed with.
Although the Leeds skipper may not have touched the ball, he certainly didn’t make too much contact with Wilson either, which is why the decision was looked at quickly.
The Premier League has changed in modern-day football, and fouls are given now for the slightest of contacts.
We can’t complain massively though, as it does benefit the Whites too – take the classic Luke Ayling flop for example – he loves to throw himself to the floor to relieve the pressure on his side.
Hayden can question the rulings all he likes, the Whites were a class above Newcastle, and that eventually was highlighted in the scoreline.
