Graham Smyth moots heavy damage for Andrea Radrizzani and Jesse Marsch if Leeds United are relegated

Graham Smyth has insisted that Andrea Radrizzani would be heavily damaged should Leeds United drop out of the Premier League this weekend.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist admitted the decision to bring in Jesse Marsch over Marcelo Bielsa will be heavily scrutinised when discussing a potential exit.

Even if Marsch remained at the helm with Leeds in the Championship, Smyth admits it would take a miraculous resurrection for fans to be back on side at Elland Road.

Writing in his latest column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Smyth shared what is to be expected of Marsch should the Whites face the drop at the weekend.

“And what of Jesse Marsch? Clearly bitten by the Elland Road bug, as evidenced by his eagerness to get involved with the crowd even after defeats, was he wounded by their chants for Bielsa on Sunday?” he wrote.

“Would a relegation this weekend, with him at the helm, damage him and Andrea Radrizzani’s decision to appoint him too heavily?

“He was adamant, not long after his arrival, that he was all-in with Leeds no matter the outcome of this season. Staying up should keep him in place and perhaps even the despair of relegation will not kill that enthusiasm.

“It will necessitate a miraculous resurrection in the eyes of some supporters, however.”

Damage.

It would be hard to imagine a way back for either Marsch or Radrizzani should we drop into the Championship.

You saw at Elland Road against Brighton with the chants for the owner to go, that he will not be forgiven for his lack of investment in the squad in January, and even as far back as last summer.

Junior Firpo came in, but the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Gaetano Berardi and Ezgjan Alioski were allowed to leave with no real replacements coming in for those huge characters.

Marsch has been thrown into the deep end, we all know that, but the style of football has been nothing short of drab and that isn’t showing us great signs that he is the man for the job.

It would be a summer of huge change if both were to go, but the most likely scenario is the 49ers Enterprise taking over from Radrizzani, and probably keeping that American influence of Marsch in charge.

Let’s hope that we avoid the drop and a new beginning can start – we have everything crossed.
